MOLES

Introduction

  • Moles are growths on the skin that are usually brown or black. Moles can appear anywhere on the skin, alone or in groups.
  • Moles can appear either at birth (congenital mole) or at any point of once life time ( Acquired mole).

Causes of Mole

  • Moles occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. These cells are called melanocytes, and they make the pigment that gives skin its natural color. Moles may darken after exposure to the sun, during the teen years, and during pregnancy

Treatments of Moles

  • If a mole does not change over time, there is little reason for concern. If you see any signs of change in an existing mole, if you have a new mole, or if you want a mole to be removed for cosmetic reasons, talk to your dermatologist.

Introduction

  • A skin tag is a small flap of tissue that hangs off the skin by a connecting stalk. Skin tags are not dangerous. They are usually found on the neck, chest, back, armpits, under the breasts, or in the groin area. Usually the reason may be genetic / obesity.
  • Skin tags usually don’t cause any pain. However, they can become irritated if anything, such as clothing, jewelry, or skin rubs against them.

Treatments of Skin Tags

  • Your dermatologist can remove a skin tag by radio frequency / co2 laser.

DERMATOSIS PAPULOSA NIGRA (DPN)

Introduction

  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is a benign (harmless) condition where multiple small, brown-black, raised spots appear on the face and neck.

Causes of DPN

  • The cause of DPN is unknown but around 50% of those affected have a family history of DPN. It is not contagious and does not spread from person-to-person.

What does DPN look like?

  • Multiple smooth, small, brown-black raised spots appear on the face and neck. Sometimes they also develop on the upper chest or back. The raised spots are actually tiny seborrhoeic keratoses.
  • These spots usually start in young adults, and tend to increase in number with age. Women often have more of these spots compared with men.
  • The raised spots can occasionally become irritated if scratched or rubbed but generally they cause no problems other than their appearance.

Treatment of DPN

  • DPN is harmless and does not require any form of treatment. However, various methods for removal are available if desired for cosmetic reasons.

WART

Introduction

  • Warts are skin growths that are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 60 kinds of HPV, some of which tend to cause warts on the skin. HPV stimulates quick growth of cells on the skin’s outer layer. In most cases, common warts appear on the fingers, near the fingernails or on the hands. Certain types of HPV can also cause warts to appear in the genital area.

Types of Warts

  • Common warts
  • Plantar warts: This type of wart usually appears as flesh-colored or light brown lumps that are flecked with small clotted blood vessels that appear as tiny black dots. Plantar warts appear on the soles of the feet.
  • Genital warts: Genital warts can appear in the pubic area, on the genitals, in or around the anus, and/or in the vagina. They look like small flesh-colored, pink, or red growths. The warts may look similar to the small parts of a cauliflower or they may be very tiny and difficult to see. They often appear in clusters of three or four, and may grow and spread rapidly. They usually are not painful, although they may cause mild pain, bleeding, and itching.
  • Flat warts: This type of wart is more common in teens and children than in adults. Flat warts are smoother, flatter, and smaller than other warts and they generally occur on the face. Flat warts also can appear on the legs, especially among females.

Treatments of Warts

  • Radio Frequency
  • Cryotherapy
  • The base of the wart will be destroyed using an electric needle or by cryotherapy (deep freezing )
  • Freezing (Cryotherapy):  liquid nitrogen will be used to freeze a wart, which can reach temperatures as low as -320 F to freeze off the wart.
